Exploring the City: A Journey through Education
School trips are so much more than just a day out of the classroom; it’s an opportunity for our students to immerse themselves in hands-on learning experiences that transcend traditional boundaries. At Uchenna Academy, we believe in the power of exploration, and our recent excursions during the 2023-2024 school year, to some of Toronto’s most renowned institutions have been nothing short of transformative.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU):
On few occasions this school year, our students had the chance to step into the shoes of budding scientists and athletes alike. From conducting University level experiments in state-of-the-art labs to being spectators during University basketball games, TMU always offers a dynamic blend of academic enrichment and recreational fun. Did we say that few of our graduates attend TMU and have received scholarships to attend the school?
Ontario Science Centre:
In the fall, we ventured to the Science Centre, a hub of discovery and innovation. Here, students experienced the mysteries of static electricity, uncovering its fascinating principles through interactive exhibits and engaging demonstrations. The hands-on approach to learning sparked curiosity and ignited a passion for scientific inquiry among our eager learners. It also gave us weird hair styles.
Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO):
On Valentine’s Day, our students spent the day at the Art Gallery of Ontario, learning about the world of art and culture. Armed with a scavenger-hunt type assignment, they explored captivating exhibits, sharpening their observational skills and critical thinking abilities along the way. The AGO provided a canvas for creativity to flourish, inspiring students to appreciate the beauty and diversity of artistic expression.
University Health Network (UHN):
At the University Health Network, students were introduced to cutting-edge research and technology in the field of healthcare. The KITE Challenging Environments Assessment Lab (CEAL) offered a firsthand glimpse into the future of patient care, with immersive experiences ranging from application design workshops to hands-on demonstrations of myoelectric control of prosthetic limbs. Through these immersive activities, students gained valuable insights into the intersection of technology and healthcare, paving the way for future innovation and discovery.
