Uchenna Academy Values
Every school has its own set of guiding principles that uniquely distinguish it from others. Here are Uchenna’s educational objectives:
1 | CORE ACADEMIC SKILLS
Uchenna Academy students have an option to complete Advanced Placement (AP) mathematics curriculum, which provide students with an opportunity to take university-level courses in high school. Most universities award students with qualifying AP Exam scores a University credit, the opportunity to skip introductory-level courses in the subject, or both. Uchenna Academy students can also graduate with a French Language Certificate. We are also an official SAT Test Centre, and we provide SAT test prep to all our full-time students wishing to take the test.
2 | GLOBAL READINESS
Uchenna Academy prepares students for a life in a global world. Components include proficiency in Economics and an opportunity to take Advanced Placement curriculum in select subjects. In addition, Uchenna Academy works with strategic corporate partners, including Toronto Rehabilitation Institute (TRI), the world’s largest rehabilitation sciences hospital, where our students work alongside researchers in designing and presenting their assistive device project.
3 | CONDUCT
Uchenna Academy actively teaches moral and ethical values, including honour, respect and hard work. Uchenna Academy students are taught to honour their promises; respect themselves, their peers, their school and their communities; and expect nothing without hard work.
4 | LIFE SKILLS
Uchenna Academy embraces practical matters often ignored by academic institutions. Students become comfortable with a variety of life skills, including leadership, bullying prevention, public speaking, time management and technological competency.
5 | ATHLETICS
Sports, fitness and wellness are central to Uchenna Academy’s mission. In 2021, we have moved to a large, 12,000 ft2 space downtown Toronto, with two sports courts and a crossfit area. Student athletes practice their athletic skills during class time, as well as during daily team practices.
Uchenna Academy athletics complements our school’s overall educational philosophy by providing an opportunity for all students to enhance their physical and mental health and collaborate through team play. All Uchenna Academy students are expected to develop a personal regimen of exercise during their time at our school.
6 | ENTRY INTO GREAT HIGHER EDUCATION
Uchenna Academy will place every Uchenna student in an important college, university or other institution of higher education. Our guidance department is a perfect bridge between our students and university admissions offices (OUAC). We individually provide support with the OUAC applications to ensure all students meet the criteria and deadlines during their university application process. In addition, Uchenna Academy hosts several university representatives at our school, providing students with comprehensive information about post-graduate programs, courses of study and future career paths.
