Sports and Tech Re-imagined: Inside Our Toronto Tech Week Event

Friday, May 29, 2026

On May 29, 2026, QSLA closed out Toronto Tech Week with a night where sport met technology: live demos, a powerhouse panel, a fireside chat with the CEO of Ontario Basketball, and the launch of something big.

As part of Toronto Tech Week, the citywide celebration of the people building what’s next, running May 25–29, 2026, our partner QSLA hosted Sports and Tech Re-imagined, bringing together athletes, coaches, founders, investors, and tech builders for a high-energy look at how innovation is reshaping the future of sport.

The night explored the questions everyone in this space is asking: how AI, data, and wearable tech are elevating athletic performance and recovery, how the business of sport is evolving, where the opportunities are for entrepreneurs and athletes, and how the habits that drive success on the court translate to success in life.

Technology our students actually use

What set the evening apart was that this wasn’t theory — it was live, on-site, and hands-on.

Ryan Mingo, our Strength & Conditioning coach, was on the floor demonstrating how performance training works inside a real athlete-development program. Alongside him, our partners at Peripheral Labs brought their 3D immersive system – the same technology our student-athletes will be training on – giving guests a firsthand look at where biomechanics and basketball are headed.

We also unveiled our new athlete-development tracker – a platform that pulls every element of training into one place, from on-court work to strength, conditioning, and wellness. It’s the connective tissue behind how we develop the whole athlete, and seeing it in front of a room of founders and coaches was a milestone for our team.

The panel

The centerpiece was a panel diving into the technologies transforming athlete development, performance analytics, and coaching, moderated by event co-host Stacey-Ann Berry, President and Founder of Bstellar Group Inc.

The panel brought together:

  • Rey Lambie — Founder & CEO of Founder Athlete Inc. and former hockey player
  • Abz Prakash — Director of Mental Performance at Above The Neck Inc.
  • Kelvin Cui — Co-founder & CEO of Peripheral
  • Ryan Mingo — Coach at Uchenna Academy and Certified Personal Trainer with Jump Labs

Together they covered the full picture, from the physical and mental sides of performance to the business and entrepreneurial opportunities opening up across the sport-and-tech ecosystem.

A fireside chat with Ontario Basketball

In an exclusive fireside chat, Claude Nembhard, CEO of Ontario Basketball, sat down with Dave McNee, Principal at Uchenna Academy, for a candid conversation about the future of basketball in the province and the role technology and development programs play in building it.

Thank you to everyone who joined us, to our panelists and partners, and to Toronto Tech Week for the platform. This is just the beginning.
