Objective 1: Increase Student Diversity and Gender Balance

• Create a targeted marketing campaign highlighting the school’s strengths, academic programs, extracurricular activities, and inclusive environment. Emphasize the benefits of co-education and the unique opportunities available to female students.
• Evaluate and enhance existing facilities, resources, and programs to accommodate the needs of female students. Ensure that gender-specific facilities are in place, such as dedicated restrooms and changing areas.
• Collaborate with local middle schools and educational organizations to establish partnerships and promote the school as a destination for grade 7 students.
• Engage in community outreach initiatives to build relationships with families and introduce them to the benefits of the school
• Create scholarship programs or financial aid options specifically aimed at attracting female students. This helps remove financial barriers and encourages a more diverse student population.

Objective 2: Academic Improvement

• Provide professional development opportunities for teachers to improve their instructional strategies, assessment techniques, and subject knowledge. Offer workshops, seminars, and collaborative learning experiences to foster continuous growth among faculty members.
• Implement a system to identify students who require additional academic support. Offer tutoring programs, study groups, and personalized interventions to help students excel in their studies.
• Integrate technology into the teaching and learning process to enhance student engagement and facilitate innovative approaches to instruction. Provide access to digital resources, educational apps, and online platforms that support academic growth.
• Foster a collaborative learning environment among teachers through regular meetings, peer observations, and shared best practices. Encourage collaboration and professional dialogue to improve teaching strategies and student outcomes.
• Implement strategies to involve parents in their children’s education. Host parent-teacher conferences, workshops, and regular communication channels to provide updates on student progress and solicit parental involvement.

By implementing this strategic plan, Uchenna Academy aims to provide an enriching educational experience that prepares students for success in all aspects of their lives, while fostering a vibrant and inclusive school community

Gerald is our past student, currently completing the Co-op BBA program at Laurier University. He is also busy creating a startup called HustleHawks. It is a mobile app marketplace that provides jobs for college and university students performing tasks for other students, businesses and people in the local community.

The app is currently in its ‘beta’ stage and any of Uchenna Academy current students requiring volunteer hours are invited to work with Gerald and earn their volunteer hours while also helping a successful launch of HustleHawks.

Gerald summarized his review of Uchenna Academy as follows:

I took my drivers ed. and calculus course at Uchenna Academy. I achieved success in both because of the awesome faculty, great learning environment and the creative ways that content is taught. It is the perfect balance between learning all necessary material and achieving academic success without countless hours of homework! They also offer great tutoring services as well.10/10

My son is a graduate of the Uchenna Academy program (2019-2020 school year) and currently a top student in his Laurier co-op BBA program. He greatly benefited from the skills developed at Uchenna. It seems like the program is vastly improved… and it was already an amazing program years ago. Course Description

This course provides students with the opportunity for in-depth study of the concepts and processes that occur in biological systems. Students will study theory and conduct investigations in the areas of biochemistry, metabolic processes, molecular genetics, homeostasis, and population dynamics. Emphasis will be placed on the achievement of detailed knowledge and the refinement of skills needed for further study in various branches of the life sciences and related fields.

Scientific Investigations Skills & Career Exploration

1. Demonstrate scientific investigation skills (related to both inquiry and research) in the four areas of skills (initiating and planning, performing and recording, analysing and interpreting, and communicating);
2. Identify and describe careers related to the fields of science under study, and describe contributions of scientists, including Canadians, to those fields.

Biochemistry

1. Analyse technological applications of enzymes in some industrial processes, and evaluate technological advances in the field of cellular biology;
2. Investigate the chemical structures, functions, and chemical properties of biological molecules involved in some common cellular processes and biochemical reactions;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the structures and functions of biological molecules, and the biochemical reactions required to maintain normal cellular function

Metabolic Processes

1. Analyse the role of metabolic processes in the functioning of biotic and abiotic systems, and evaluate the importance of an understanding of these processes and related technologies to personal choices made in everyday life;
2. Investigate the products of metabolic processes such as cellular respiration and photosynthesis;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the chemical changes and energy conversions that occur in metabolic processes.

Molecular Genetics

1. Analyse some of the social, ethical, and legal issues associated with genetic research and biotechnology;
2. Investigate, through laboratory activities, the structures of cell components and their roles in processes that occur within the cell;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of concepts related to molecular genetics, and how genetic modification is applied in industry and agriculture.

Homeostasis

1. Evaluate the impact on the human body of selected chemical substances and of environmental factors related to human activity;
2. Investigate the feedback mechanisms that maintain homeostasis in living organisms;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of the anatomy and physiology of human body systems, and explain the mechanisms that enable the body to maintain homeostasis.

Population Dynamics

1. Analyse the relationships between population growth, personal consumption, technological development, and our ecological footprint, and assess the effectiveness of some Canadian initiatives intended to assist expanding populations;
2. Investigate the characteristics of population growth, and use models to calculate the growth of populations within an ecosystem;
3. Demonstrate an understanding of concepts related to population growth, and explain the factors that affect the growth of various populations of species.
